is it travel?

A travelog of sorts: Josh and Renate in the Americas

On previous travels to far and distant lands, we've kept detailed journals describing the often mundane and occasionally entertaining details of our experiences. This time, we're trying a more focused approach. We call it action - reflection - question.

First, we describe something that we do and/or observe on our travels. The actions that we choose to write about may be extraordinary or ordinary, but to us, they all reveal something meaningful and inspire further thought.

Second, we reflect on the meaning of this action. What might the action tell us about the people we meet and places we visit? What might it tell us about ourselves and our own homes? How does it relate to broader local and global issues?

Third, we pose questions raised by this action and reflection. For us, travel is a process of constant exploration and learning. We find that we learn best by posing problems and questions, and discussing them with other people. We therefore choose to conclude not with conclusions, but rather with further questions. Your thoughts and responses are very welcome.

Grounded in the concept of praxis, we hope that the actions of our travels, combined with reflection, will help us (including you) explore different ways of experiencing the world as we travel through it.
